The Senior Class @ the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired is hosting a Pack the House Night @ Leo's Please mark your calendars and stop in for an amazing dinner for a great cause. We hope to see you there! On Wednesday, October 9th we'll host a Pack the House night at Leo's Pizza in Jacksonville from 4 - 10 pm. Leo's will donate 15% back of all food sales back to our Sr. Class @ ISVI. The Pack the House Night applies to Dine in and Carry out only. The only delivery that will be credited are deliveries to the campus of ISVI. Please help us spread the word.

At the end there's yet another Video of our Opening Doors Program. This website's goal is to be an added resource as to all the great opportunities that are happening for the students at ISVI. For more detailed school information click on ISVI's State website. You can also find links taking you directly to other local schools in Jacksonville such as ISD, Routt, & JHS. Booster Club's Fundraiser

The ISVI Booster Club is selling Football Cards for the NFL season. Each week we're guaranteed at least 1 WINNER from our allotment of tickets we're selling. Your 1 Ticket gives you two chances to Win each week in the NFL season. Once again, to allow us the time to promote and sell tickets - all tickets are for the 2nd half of the NFL season. Over the past 3 seasons - from our stack of tickets to sell - we've had 65 people Win $$$ Purchase yours Today! The Booster Club works with ISVI to offset the costs of each sport as well as the cost of using outside facilities such as JHS, MAC, IC, & The Bowl Inn. Each year, the Booster Club purchases team-shirts, Warm-ups, Uniforms, some equipment, and works with the school to offset costs using outside facilities. We are very thankful of all the organizations and business' that support our students, school, and activities. The donations, advertisements, and sponsors obviously help us by their financial donations, but equally important: they help us to build stronger connections between the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired and the community. As with every school, budgets are tight and the cost of activities and sports continue to rise. ISVI is a residential school in which our students are from all over the state. Unlike our local public schools, the vast majority of our students are not local. At the same time, our students are integrated throughout Jacksonville and as a result, Jacksonville becomes their 2nd home. From their first day of attendance, our students learn to advocate for themselves and become as independent as possible. We’re fortunate in that this community embraces all the schools. White Cane Safety Day is a national observance in the United States, celebrated on October 15 of each year since 1964.
The date is set aside to celebrate the achievements of people who are blind or visually impaired and the important symbol of blindness and tool of independence, the white cane.

Boss' Day : Oct. 16

Patricia Bays Haroski registered "National Boss' Day" with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 1958. She was working as a secretary for State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, Illinois for her father, at the time and chose October 16, which was her father's birthday.
The purpose of designating a special day in the workplace is to show the appreciation for her bosses she thought they deserved. This was also a strategy to attempt to improve intra-office relationships between managers and their employees.
Haroski believed that young employees sometimes did not understand the hard work and dedication that their supervisors put into their work and the challenges they faced. Four years later, in 1962, Illinois Governor Otto Kerner backed Haroski's registration and officially proclaimed the day.

November is designated as National Native American Heritage Month. This observance commemorates the history, heritage, and culture of Native Americans and Alaskan Natives. It is during this month we acknowledge the vast achievements of America’s original indigenous people.
What started at the turn of the century as an effort to gain a day of recognition for the contributions of the many intertribal cultures, as well as to educate everyone about the rich history, heritage, art, and traditions of the original American peoples made to the establishment and growth of the United States, has resulted in a whole month being designated for that purpose.
