World Braille Day is celebrated annually on January 4 to honor the birth of Braille's inventor, Louis Braille.
Braille's gift to the world has brightened the lives of millions of people around the world who are blind or visually impaired, and they benefit from his work every day.
World Braille Day also acknowledges that people who are blind or visually impaired should have the same rights as everyone else. The history of World Braille Day may be traced back to November 2012, when the United Nations formally acknowledged the day.
